Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire resides in a sleepy part of Montreal Island, which is known as West Island. It is the West Island, to those not familiar with it, is an extensive part that stretches from Lachine all the way west. Amanda Brugel grew up on this island, and it is commonly referred to as her birthplace. But she only was there for a brief duration. Brugel grew up in Courtice outside Oshawa Ontario. She had a dream to dance but an increase in her height meant that she literally outgrew her dance partners. The article she wrote about her experience revealed that was published in the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall, even when she wears heels. As I got bigger than my male dancers, I decided to quit. Some former dancers switch into acting. In the case of Brugel, it was the nudge of the drama instructor at her high school who encouraged her to go in that direction. One of her teachers suggested she audition for an annual school play. She auditioned and was eventually cast as the lead of Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts at York University. Since then, Brugel has been performing in over 60 plays, large and small. Most notable was the time she was cast as Rita on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian on the Season 1 The Handmaid's Tale cast and seen only occasionally, was the only Canadian.
